September 7–13, 2026 — The Panthers kick off the regular season at home against the Chicago Bears on Sunday in what promises to be one of the biggest game days of the year. The Charlotte Knights play their final home series of 2026 against the Buffalo Bisons (Tuesday through Sunday), capped by Fan Appreciation Day. Hell's Kitchen — The Musical runs all week at Belk Theater in Uptown. Labor Day Monday closes out the Yiasou Greek Festival in Dilworth, and the Carolina Renaissance Festival opens its 2026 season in Concord.
This is a transitional week in Charlotte — summer fades into fall, Labor Day weekend winds down, and the city shifts gears toward football season and cultural events. The Yiasou Greek Festival wraps on Labor Day Monday (one of Charlotte's longest-running traditions), the Carolina Renaissance Festival opens for the season, and Hell's Kitchen — The Musical brings Broadway to Belk Theater all week. But the crown jewel of the week is Sunday, September 13: the Panthers host the Bears in the regular season home opener, and the Knights play their season finale at 1:05 PM — an embarrassment of sports riches for Charlotte. It's a great week to be in the Queen City.

Carolina Panthers vs. Chicago Bears — Regular Season Opener

The Carolina Panthers open their 2026 regular season at home against the Chicago Bears at Bank of America Stadium. This is the game that matters — preseason is over, and the energy in Uptown will be electric. Hell's Kitchen — The Musical

"Hell's Kitchen — The Musical" takes the stage at Belk Theater for a weeklong run September 8–13. The Tony Award-winning show features music inspired by New York's competitive restaurant scene and has been one of the most celebrated new musicals on Broadway. This is a major Uptown theater event — expect a polished production with a full orchestra. Sunday September 13 features a 1:00 PM matinee followed by a 6:30 PM evening performance. Nurse John: Against Medical Advice Tour

Nurse John brings his "Against Medical Advice" comedy tour to Ovens Auditorium for a night of laugh-out-loud stand-up. Known for his viral medical humor and sharp observations about the healthcare world, this is a fun and different night out. Ovens Auditorium is an intimate mid-century venue near Uptown with great sound and sightlines.
Yiasou Greek Festival
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral — 600 East Blvd, Dilworth
The Yiasou Greek Festival wraps up on Labor Day Monday, September 7, running through the first days of this week. This is Charlotte's most beloved cultural festival — authentic Greek food (gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita, baklava), live Greek music and dancing, church tours, and a market with imported goods. It's held on the grounds of the gorgeous Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Dilworth. A 58-year Charlotte tradition and an absolute must-attend.
Carolina Renaissance Festival
16445 Poplar Tent Rd, Concord NC (near Huntersville)
The Carolina Renaissance Festival opens for its 2026 season on the first weekend of September and runs every weekend through late October. Set on 25 acres of wooded fairgrounds about 20 minutes north of Uptown, it offers jousting tournaments, artisan shops, turkey legs, mead, and costumed performers. It's one of the largest Renaissance festivals in the country and a beloved Charlotte-area fall tradition. Opening weekend is a great time to go before the crowds peak in October.

If you're not going to the game, the surrounding bars and restaurants will be packed with watch parties. After the game, the Uptown dining and bar scene stays lively into the evening.

September farmers markets bring the transition from summer to fall produce. You'll still find late-season tomatoes, okra, and peppers alongside the first apples, winter squash, and pumpkins. Charlotte Knights — Fan Appreciation Day

The Knights' 2026 season finale is Fan Appreciation Day, with giveaways, special promotions, and a full ballpark send-off. First pitch at 1:05 PM, and the game overlaps with the Panthers opener — a great problem to have for Charlotte sports fans. Arrive early for the Knights game, then head to a watch party for the second half of the Panthers vs Bears.
Fall Season at the U.S. National Whitewater Center
U.S. National Whitewater Center — 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy
The Whitewater Center transitions into fall operations after Labor Day, with slightly shorter hours but all activities still available: whitewater rafting, zip lines, climbing, mountain biking, and hiking trails. The cooler September weather makes it the best time of year for trail running and mountain biking. Fall colors begin appearing along the river by late September. The River Jam free concert series has wrapped for the summer, but the park itself is still open and active.

Panthers Regular Season Opener (Sunday, September 13)
There is nothing like opening day at Bank of America Stadium. The energy, the tailgates, the roar of the crowd when the Panthers take the field. Win or lose, it's one of the best days of the year in Charlotte. If you can't get tickets, find a spot in Uptown for game-watching brunch or head to a sports bar in South End.
Yiasou Greek Festival (Catch it on Labor Day Monday, Sep 7)
Charlotte's longest-running cultural festival will wrap up on Monday, but you can still catch it on the first day of this week. Go for the gyros, stay for the Greek dancing and hospitality. It's held on the beautiful grounds of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Dilworth — a community event that has defined Charlotte culture for 58 years.
Charlotte Knights Fan Appreciation Day (Sunday, September 13)
It's a tough call between the Panthers opener and the Knights season finale — both at 1:00 PM on Sunday. But if you love baseball and great ballpark vibes, the Knights' Fan Appreciation Day is a wonderful way to close out the summer. Truist Field is one of the best minor league ballparks in the country, and September baseball in Charlotte has a special feel.
