Charlotte's summers are hot and the city's free spraygrounds are the best way to cool off with kids. All Mecklenburg County spraygrounds are open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM, Memorial Day weekend (May 23) through Labor Day (September 7), and they're completely free. Here's where to find them across the metro.
Uptown & Central Charlotte — Uptown, NoDa, Elizabeth, Plaza Midwood
Fountains and splash features in a beautifully landscaped 5.4-acre park. A go-to spot for families visiting the Levine Center for the Arts area. The fish-shaped fountain at The Green (400 S. Tryon St) is also a fun, free water feature for little ones amid the skyscrapers.
Modern sprayground across from ImaginOn and the Charlotte Main Library. Shaded seating for parents, right in the cultural heart of the city. Walkable to restaurants and museums — a perfect mid-morning stop after Discovery Place Science.
A small splash pad and playground at 421 E 26th Street in the heart of the NoDa arts district. Perfect for a quick cool-down after exploring the galleries, street murals, and coffee shops along North Davidson Street. A favorite among local parents for its walkable location and playground access.
A pirate-themed splash pad that's a hit with younger kids. Located near Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, with walking paths, shaded areas, and a playground. One of the most popular spraygrounds in central Charlotte.
A well-maintained sprayground with shade cover over the water features. The park also offers a playground, basketball court, and outdoor pavilions — a great all-day family destination with plenty to do beyond the water.
A neighborhood favorite in the NoDa corridor. This sprayground plus a newly renovated playground, walking trails, and a dog park — the full package for a family afternoon. Cordelia also features an outdoor pool ($2 entry) for days when only full swimming will do.
A seasonal sprayground at 5027 N. Idlewild Road in the University City area, operated by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation. The rec center also offers indoor amenities including a gym and community programs. A convenient option for University City and east Charlotte families looking for free water play without driving into Uptown.
Charlotte's indoor water park at 215 N Sycamore Street, operated by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation. Features a lazy river, waterslides, water geysers, toddler splash zone, and a massive bucket dump. Perfect for rainy days, hot afternoons when you need AC, or year-round water play. Open Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with varying hours. Admission approximately $10; Mecklenburg County residents receive a discount. Infants under 1 are free. South Charlotte — Dilworth, Myers Park, Ballantyne, Steele Creek, Pineville & Beyond
One of Charlotte's largest and most beloved spraygrounds, fully fenced and connected to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. The 16-acre park has walking trails, a historic pond, and Carolina Scoops ice cream nearby — a perfect combination for a summer family outing.
A free splash pad at the Blakeney shopping center on Rea Road at Ardrey Kell Road. Open 8 AM to 9 PM — the longest daily hours of any splash pad in the area. Combine water play with lunch at one of the nearby restaurants or a coffee from the walkable shopping center.

A popular free splash park at the Waverly shopping center at Providence Road and Ardrey Kell Road. This family-friendly spot offers plenty of dining and shopping options nearby. The seasonal hours mean it's best to go midday during peak summer.
Located at 4635 Pineville-Matthews Road, this park features a splash pad and playground along with sports fields and walking trails. A solid option for Ballantyne-area families looking for a quieter alternative to the busier shopping center splash pads.
A splash pad attached to one of Charlotte's newest sports complexes. Great for families who want to combine water play with basketball courts, walking trails, or the adjacent sports fields.
One of the best spraygrounds in south Charlotte, just off I-485 at 1000 Johnston Drive in Pineville. Bathrooms and shaded shelters are on-site. Easily accessed from Matthews, Fort Mill, and Ballantyne.
A covered splash pad (sprayground) at 2401 Kendall Drive, serving the Steele Creek and west Charlotte communities. Features a playground, picnic tables, restrooms, and on-site parking. A quieter, well-maintained alternative to the busier Uptown spraygrounds — popular with west Charlotte families looking for a relaxed water play spot close to home.
North Charlotte & Lake Norman — North Charlotte, Huntersville, Mooresville

A quieter option off Statesville Road with a covered sprayground, playground, and community recreation center. The shade cover and ADA-accessible playground make this a smart choice for hot afternoons and families with younger children.
A Mecklenburg County seasonal sprayground at 5435 Hucks Road with two separate spray areas — one for younger children and one for older kids. Less well-known than the Uptown parks, which means it's often quieter. Open 10 AM to 7 PM daily. A solid option for north Charlotte families looking for a relaxed water play experience.
Huntersville's signature splash pad, opened in 2024, featuring a pond theme with custom lily pad features, Life Floor surfacing, a Sling Soaker, and Waterways Waterfalls. The park also offers athletic fields, walking trails, and a lake — one of the best all-around parks in the county.
A community splash pad with gentle jets and sprayers designed for toddlers and elementary-aged kids. Free, and a great option for families with younger children who might find the bigger spraygrounds overwhelming.
A recently renovated splash pad at 100 Sherwood Drive in Huntersville, part of a well-maintained neighborhood park with playground equipment, sports fields, and walking paths. Less crowded than the bigger Birkdale and Lily Pad options, making it a great choice for families with younger children who want a quieter water play experience.

Cornelius's signature ~1,300 sq ft splash pad right on Lake Norman at 21031 Catawba Avenue. Combines water play with lake views, a fishing pier, and a lakeside trail system through Kiwanis Park. Restrooms and parking on-site. A true Lake Norman summer experience.

Located at 2921 Tuckaseegee Road, this rec center offers water play features in the Steele Creek / southwest corridor. A solid local option for families in the growing Steele Creek area.
A popular splash pad at Village Park in Kannapolis, located at 740 W C Street, about 25 minutes northeast of Uptown. Designed for all ages and abilities with gentle spray features. The park also has a carousel, train rides, and picnic shelters — making it a full-day family destination. Admission is just $1.00–$1.50 per person. A great budget-friendly option for east Mecklenburg and Cabarrus County families.
Fort Mill's only public splash pad at 600 Steele Street. Open daily Memorial Day through Labor Day, 10 AM to 8:30 PM. Free and well-maintained with a playground, picnic shelter, grills, a lit basketball court, and restrooms on-site. A welcoming community spot for Fort Mill families looking to cool off close to home without crossing the state line.
Brand new for 2026! Indian Land's first public splash pad at 5396 CrossRidge Boulevard. Open Monday through Saturday 10:30 AM to 7 PM and Sundays 12 PM to 6 PM. Free and free parking. A fantastic new amenity for the fast-growing Indian Land community, giving families a dedicated water play option close to home in Lancaster County.
Spraygrounds are busiest on weekend afternoons. For the most relaxed experience, go on a weekday morning or early afternoon. Pack sunscreen, water shoes, and a change of clothes — and don't forget your camera, because the kids will have a blast. Most Mecklenburg County spraygrounds run 10 AM to 8 PM from Memorial Day weekend (May 23) through Labor Day (September 7). Blakeney Shopping Center stays open until 9 PM, making it a great option for early evening trips after the sun starts to cool down. County water parks like Ray's Splash Planet also offer indoor year-round water play, which is perfect for rainy days or early fall. Note that the Labor Day closure means some spraygrounds may begin reducing hours starting in late August, so call ahead or check Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation online before making a special trip in early September. Also be aware that drought conditions in the region may affect splash pad operations. Some areas of Huntersville experienced water restrictions earlier this summer that temporarily impacted local spraygrounds. Always check with the specific park or town website before heading out, especially during extended dry spells.
