October opens with a bang: two weekends of Mecktoberfest at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, Oktoberfest on Rock Hill's Main Street, the Carolina Renaissance Festival's opening weekend, and the Panthers kicking off at home Sunday night. This is the weekend to pick a lane, because there is no shortage of them.
Mecktoberfest at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
Charlotte's original Oktoberfest tradition opens its 2026 run at OMB Ballantyne: German-style lagers by the liter boot, live oom-pah bands, brats, pretzels, and stein-holding contests in the biergarten. Free entry with pay-as-you-go eating and drinking, and it repeats the following weekend, October 9-11.

Hodges Family Farm Pumpkin Patch
A working farm in east Charlotte with a pumpkin patch, hayrides, and fall photo fields. Free admission with per-pumpkin pricing and a small weekend parking fee, which makes it one of the most affordable pumpkin-patch runs inside the city.
Charlotte Regional Farmers Market: Fall Harvest Season
The state-run regional market is the metro's biggest produce stock-up: five vendor buildings of fall squash, apples, pecans, honey, cheese, and baked goods at peak harvest, plus seasonal Harvest Festival programming on fall weekends. Free admission and parking.

Matthews' long-running Saturday market is a fall favorite: apples, squash, honey, and local crafts next to the town green, with the Fall for Matthews festival wrapping the season's first weekends. One of the best market-plus-downtown combos in the metro.
Fort Mill Farmers & Artisans Market
The SC-side market runs its final Saturdays of the season this month at Veterans Park in downtown Fort Mill: local produce, artisan goods, and live music, steps from the town's shops and restaurants. October 31 is the season closer, so stock up while it lasts.
